Artist Statement

The devastating impacts of Hurricanes María and Fiona in my home country and the Caribbean have profoundly shaped my artistic vision. In my latest collection, Colindancias, I explore the Musa Paradisiaca—scientific term for plantains and banana trees—symbols of food, life, and hope. The banana plant, with its remarkable ability to endure and thrive in adverse conditions, mirrors our collective resilience as individuals.

Through this work, I invite viewers to appreciate the overlooked forms and colors of this plant. My careful contrasts and brushwork convey both fragility and strength, embodying determination. Just as the banana plant flourishes beyond boundaries despite setbacks, I aspire to inspire others with the boundless fortitude of nature.

Though my artistic journey began with acrylics as a therapeutic outlet, I have since become captivated by the oil painting techniques of the Renaissance and Impressionist masters. Witnessing my art evolve has been a privilege, and I remain committed to further experimentation, creating works that speak to both my vision and the resilience of life itself.
